Ya, I missed a couple of very modern devices, one of which was a digital telephone answering machine. Mine though digital, has a fully exposed control panel...

The answer phone and the dial-up modem.

The dial-up modems I used were ISA cards in the PC, what few stand alone modems I have used didn't resemble the one shown... I remember the acoustically coupled ones! I might have an ISA card modem around somewhere, anyone want it???

I had an Executone answering machine, as big as a two cement blocks, twin cassettes. Tricky to operate. Gave it to the Church Bazaar...

I think I have been vindicated!

I missed the dial up modem.  I was stationed in Europe when people started to use those.  Later, with a tight budget, my first access to the internet was with a WEBTV unit.
