Yeasu FRG 100 Power supply Empty
PostSubject: Re: Yeasu FRG 100 Power supply   Yeasu FRG 100 Power supply I_icon_minitimeSeptember 4th 2018, 8:56 am

Update: I finally found my Power source ( I may Have mentioned that in another Post?)

Yesterday I found there is a mass seller from Thailand that has inline Power Filters,

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I'm going to look into that. I will consider using it on my Test Equipment power strip as the input. So I will have to make up a box with a power cord and a home outlet wall type socket. May install a led on the input and output side. Also add a 10 amp fuse on the hot side. This should take care of noise from the line. I understand that if there is noise it could skew any measurements.
I did download a couple of PDFs on switching input and output filters. For future study. study

Yeasu FRG 100 Power supply Empty
PostSubject: Yeasu FRG 100 Power supply   Yeasu FRG 100 Power supply I_icon_minitimeJuly 3rd 2014, 9:04 pm

Since I have reorganized my Radio room, I am missing my Wall Wart for my Receiver. That's what happens when a helping hand volunteers, when you're gone.

So I am trying to improvise with other wall warts. It has to be 2000Ma at 12 volts DC. So I went online and purchased another, not knowing it was a switching power supply. (So much smaller), I also purchased a couple of special power jacks to adapt to the set. I replaced the connector on the wall wart and plugged it in. Wow Noise-noise-noise.

So I started to research why and after I tested it, showing no noise on my O'scope, I saying What the heck? Must be some other noise maker. So I left it plugged in and went to my circuit breaker and started to test which room had the noise maker. Well Guess what?, it was my new power supply after all.
I found out that most switcher power supply's only produce noise under load.

NOTE:  So just because you use a scope, it doesn't mean if your results are negative you may still need to consider why you are getting contrary results.

I will now test my supply with a load and now see noise I am sure. Also the same holds for linear power supply's with hum. No hum showing on the O'scope is because of no load.

Added comment update from old topic- 03 Jul 2014, to: 04/10/2023 : I did find my Yeasu power wallwart. It was hiding in a box along with about 35 other wallwarts. So I used a supply of Ziplock baggies. I sat down and recorded the Manufacturer, voltage type (A.C. or D.C. output) current limits and Numbered each bag for inventory and also marked them as a linear or switcher. Now to add output plug type and record records into MS Excel. study

Back to square one on finding a good filtered regulated supply.
