The funny thing is the first brackets set are not in the highlited link. But show as ordinary black text. I will research this more! | Frank, I have been using that method for putting a new top on a radio cabinet. I have done it several times and it works very well. I use tite bond glue. So far I have not used this method with a towel, but it might be a good idea. I have found that if you put a very thin layer on it works better because the glue should be even, or a bump under the new veneer [which is hard to get out] These photos show the glue before I smoothed it all out so it ends up thinner than it looks. In the photos the glue is not dry. | Very good Idea. I had some Altec Lansing Voice of The Theater Monstrosities to Refinish. Instead Of Vernier I use Laminate with a [u]Walnut Finish, and used Channeled brass and corner caps. But I used Contact Cement. Those two speakers were used by a Church Youth Choir on the road and were tossed around a bit. So they did hold up well. _________________ I'm a Science Thinker, Radio Tinkerer, and all around good guy. Just ask Me!

| I just found out about a new- at least to me- way of repairing veneer that has come loose, or you are replacing.
Coat both pieces and area to be covered with good old Elmers (TM) white glue. Let it dry and position the pieces over each other.
Put down a damp towel on top and iron with a clothes iron. This will cause the glue to bond to each piece, sort of like a thermo reactive contact adhesive.
The nice thing about this is, if you "Oops" you just re-heat and re-position. Now I have not tried this yet myself, but my friend has been doing this for years and I have seen the results first hand.
I do hope to try this shortly for myself, and will post the results. |
