I had to rebuild an AK 55 a while back and found the rubber "drive" for the tuning gear had gone brittle and inflexable.

"Hmmmm- sayth I, looks just like a piece of rubber tubing".
So a quick trip to the local auto parts store produced a new 1" piece of fuel line tubing the correct inner & outer diameter for free, from their scrap pile.
I slipped it over the tuning shaft- very tight fit, and bingo. It worked really Skookum.

That's good to know, Ace hardware also carries some rubber belts and rubber grommets that could be used, lots of sizes.
