To test out resisters/capacitors do I have to remove them from the circuit or just de-solder one leg?.
Many thanks again, all suggestions welcome .

Answer: Desolder just one leg would be fine.

One thing not to do is remove any tube while it is turned on. It will blow (burn out) some filaments.

Hi again and many thanks for the information, will check out your suggestions and post my findings.
I have lots of info on the tw 2000 and there are lots of US sites covering this radio but thanks for that, some say it is better than the Zenith but I cannot say as I have only listened to both of them on utube maybe some one will put me right on this one?.
Many thanks again.

pale Just thought Id give you a quick up-date on the tw 2000 as suggested , I checked the h/phone jack but found it to be ok, also checked the power switch change over ( used when on battery's) but seems to be ok.I don't have the two pin part to operate the switch so used a small screw drive, ( the change over switch is spring loaded so I presume it returns to mains operation by default?) there is also a ballast resister socket for when radio is used on British mains voltages but this also checked out fine .
I have checked out the audio transformer and speaker using a 1.5v battery and a multimeter, both ok.
Looks like I will have to start to check out the selenium rectifier, electrolytic caps etc
ps:all the valve heater filaments test for continuity ok and am getting 1.2v at the last vale filament in the string ?.
To test out resisters/capacitors do I have to remove them from the circuit or just de-solder one leg?.
Many thanks again, all suggestions welcome .

Thanks Mick for posting, Do you have the Schematic for the TW 2000 Hallicrafters? It is available I believe several places on line. Most of the time, unless those are abused they will play. The only thing is usually the switches cause problems, so a spritz of contact cleaner/lube will make it right. Like all others, some times, if it has a phono jack it gets the contacts fatigued and then there is no sound so just adjusting the contacts will solve that.
