- Hi Cliff,
I remember that one. When I was growing up, my buddy down the road from me had one. That's funny I had a friend down the street who had a Remco as well. I did talk him into selling it to me, or maybe we traded something, can't remember exactly. |

| I built my first crystal radio from the Cub-Scout "Wolf Book" in 1956. All is history from there.
See some nice kits, here:

| Good link, makes me want to start making these, I needed this, as our Church has a science school class that would benefit in a project such as this. Thanks _________________ I'm a Science Thinker, Radio Tinkerer, and all around good guy. Just ask Me!

| I have two of these sets. One is yellow and the other is blue. Have the original headphone piece also. I love to mess around with crystal radios. You dont have a lot of cost involved and I am trying to get my grandkids to build one. I subscribe to the Xtal Set Society and have bought serveral parts form them as well a a couple of their homemade sets. Lots of fun. I put up a long 500 ft antenna wire around the back of the home where I have room and it really works good. Only have it up about 25 ft at this time. Have several good ground rods also that my Ohio Edison ham friend hammered in for me . About 9 ft.in length They really make a difference . Here the link.

| yes, the good old days. I even tried to build a foxhole radio, using a razor blade setup, but I didn't have the right earphones. _________________ I'm a Science Thinker, Radio Tinkerer, and all around good guy. Just ask Me!

| I remember my dad giving me my first crystai set, about 1954.
It had a dark colored plastic base, Fahnstock type clips for the headphone, antenna and ground connections, a potted Galena Crystal, and a lever with a "Cats Whisker" mounted on the end. I don't remember exactly what I used as an antenna, lol.
We lived in the San Fernando Valley, and at night I could get 50,000 watt KMPC, and occasionally 5,000 watt KGIL, located a bit farther away. And ya know, I can still remember them interfering with each other, lol. |

| Well back then the Smog was so thick, you couldn't see more than 4 blocks, and it burned your eyes and hurt to breathe somtimes.
However I would be a gaspin fer every breath now,, and a cane and moving at a snails pace. LOL Shudder at the thought.
Of course I can remember on good days going by bicycle from Atlantic Avenue Down town Long Beach to the city of Lakewood, about 10 miles, then getting my buddy from there to Bike with me to Irvine Park, It would take us all day round trip, boy were my legs tired.

| Great story for sure Cliff. It's nice thinking about those good ole days. Though, if you're like me, think a bit about how long that walk was when you were younger, and think how long that same walk might be today. |

| I remember having one rocket crystal radio (1958) that had dual earphones. So at nite my brother and I would listen to the radio at bedtime. The other one I had cost me 99 cents, from an army surplus store in Long Beach California, on Long beach Boulevard. It was quite a walk for me, but it became my prized possession for several years. I to remember modifying it with a variable cap to make it more selective. KFI was the powerhouse (clear Channel) but also got in KHJ and KRLA. KFI-Polka-Baseball KHJ-some Rock and Roll KRLA-Rock and Roll KFWB-Rock and Roll -very weak even though it was in Pasadena, Casey Casem, and Ed Eubanks were some of the DJs that ,went on to be TV hosts on game shows. |

| Hi Cliff, I remember that one. When I was growing up, my buddy down the road from me had one. Mine was a Miniman Rocket radio. I can't remember whatever happened to it though. Wish I still had it. Every time I see one on E-Bay, something comes up and I have to put my money on that instead. Someday..... I WILL have one! Cheers, Bob PS. Cliff, as an aside, check the links to the 2 sites on your post. Nothing happens when I click on them. Maybe it's on my end, but just in case. |

| I love Crystal radios, My first one was a plastic box type with a slider control on the front and had a circle with a lightning bolt in the circle. Heres what my first Crystal Radio Looked like: Top Pin is Antenna, middle pin was ground and bottom was Phone plug. Remco brand. I now have one I assembled it and it works! ------------------------- Click here to go to the --> Xtal Set SocietyClick here to see an --> FM crystal radio construction set and others
