"They are also a great source for affordable Craftsman, Xcelite, & Vaco tools too. Typically a buck or 2 for a screwdriver, wrench, nut driver, etc."

If you need stuff in "onesies", Ace is a great place.

I usually buy most hardware buy the box.
The best prices I have found locally are at Tacoma Screw Products on Olympia, Tacoma, and IIRC Seattle too.
The big box stores charge SO much for just a couple of items, I can typically buy screws, nuts, washers, etc by the box from them for less than the cost of a dozen at Ace or the big box stores.
Not to mention the selection they have is tremendous, and they can actually have their machinist make up what you need if they cant find it for you.

BUT don't overlook the "Mom & Pop " type stores either. Sometimes you can get a 5 gallon "Hell Bucket" of assorted hardware for about 2.00/lb or less. I used to buy the "Hell Buckets" from Lumberman's in Shelton for 5-10 or 15.00 a bucket. It would take days to sort it out, but it had almost everything in the store ithe way of hardware in it. Nails, Screws, nuts, bolts, floor sweepings, etc. It was too labor costly for them to sort it all out and put it back inthe bulk bins.
Nowdays, I haunt the ReStore or Habitat For Humanity stores for such goodies. Dirt cheap prices, and generally if you wait, you will get what you need.
I bought a 5 gallon bucket 2/3 full of stuff for 5.00 the other day. I partially sorted it out, and found enough 1.25" roofing nails to re-roof my pumphouse with 2 weeks ago, with nails left over. Shocked
Drywall screws, nuts, bolts, washers, and nails of all types were in the bucket. I still need to finish sorting it, but it was a great find. I used some of the screws ont he drywall in the house, and screws on a radio repair, along with some of the nuts & bolts too.
That bucket paid for itself darned quick.
They are also a great source for affordable Craftsman, Xcelite, & Vaco tools too. Typically a buck or 2 for a screwdriver, wrench, nut driver, etc.

A great source for Hardware is ACE Hardware, They have Bins and Bins of tiny screws, nuts, bolts, metal and rubber washers, lock washers, all in brass, aluminum, steel, and stainless. I've even found sheets of rubber.
