Coax Feed through Bushings Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coax Feed through Bushings   Coax Feed through Bushings I_icon_minitimeApril 10th 2015, 10:38 pm

Cliff, I installed a lot of those hole feed thru's and caulk or silicon seal is a must.
They also make them for "one run" flat satellite cable too.

We used to call them "bum plugs".
They come  RG 59 size.
2 colors as per above; White & black.
They wholesale for >.25 ea. typically.
IIRC they may have also come in 2 sizes also.

There was also a couple of alternatives.
One was a flat ribbon used to run the wiring under the bottom of a window. It had an F59 fitting on both ends. Worked super!
Then there was one that required you to drill a hole thru the wall, and inserted a plastic tube thru the hole. A cap went on both ends to keep bugs and water out. They were made for twin lead and coax.
(Then before I knew they existed, I simply drilled thru the wall, and ran a piece of plastic pipe thru the wall.)
of course, for the REAL electronics antenna nut, you can do like they did in the 30's and drill a hole thru the window glass, and put cone insulators on both sides with a brass/copper/ bronze/ alloy "bolt" running thru the center of the insulators. The same type insulators with a longer bolt were also used to go thru a hole drilled in the wall.( More military style).

Coax Feed through Bushings Empty
PostSubject: Coax Feed through Bushings   Coax Feed through Bushings I_icon_minitimeApril 9th 2015, 3:54 pm

I wanted to get something to allow my antenna wires to go through the exterior wall of the home. I am having Vinyl Siding and vinyl windows installed. So, I went to the hardware store and came up with a simple solution.

I had fed my wires through the Aluminum windows by going through the window drain slots. That was not a good way, as every time I closed the window it would pinch the wires and expose wire to the window metal frame. And I couls only use very small wire.

RCA has some coax bushings (2 per pack) and the number is VH144R. They are an inch long and require 3/8" Hole. So I will install those after the siding is in place and seal both the outside and the inside with silicone sealer.

I think I paid $2.
