No wife here, but he S.O. collects cars, trucks, etc; so my radios are not a biggie to her. (Its my books, svc manuals, & paper that bugs her.)
She is helping remodel the storage and put in a nice heated work area for me.!!! Then she can work on her "new" 66' Pontiac Star Chief in the rest of the area.
She is pretty tolerant of the radio stuff and even has co-workers bring me stuff to fix for them.

Now she wants to learn radio repair Shocked
But that sort of goes with her job as an aircraft electrician.
Sadly she can't tell me what she works on. All the hush, hush stuff.
I must admit I love her trying to describe a problem to me, and not tell me anything, to help her solve it.
"Well, there is a box and it's connected to another box through a couple of other boxes and the last box is intermittent, and its not the box". Yeah.. One of those "I'd have to kill you to tell you what I work on then kill you again" things.Smile

Thankfully, she is a tool addict too. Never a complaint if I buy more tools. Now I have to find her a set of sheet metal tools.
I suspect when I get the blacksmiths shop set up again she will be spending a lot of time in there, as she is fascinated with it. She wants her OWN set of armor now:shock:

Thankfully, I kept the prints and templates from when I used to make that stuff 30 years ago. (Paper collector- remember?)

But the best part is she puts up with ME! Shocked Cool

Yesterday Sept 21st was our 39th wedding anniversary, my doesn't love my radios but she has said many times that without my radios I wouldn't be me.
She found out where she stood on our first date, I was an hour and a half late, I actually got to her house on time but the car was loaded with old radios and parts and I was filthy dirty. it took me the hour and a half to go home unload the can and clean up Smile
I have somewhere over 400 radios and thousands of tubes, more than 600 on display
in my main display room which she did a lot of work helping me build, wire and paint.

I couldn't be me without her.

I have so much stuff now. A shop full of metal working tools, A 1930 Ford Model A, Guns, and also radio's. All she says now is, what did you get this time? Most of the time I show her, if it does not cost too much. Now that 1903-A3 was a different story. I am still trying to figure a way out of that one.

Again!

"One very important aspect of the hobby that so far hasn't been mentioned, if you happen to be married; You will eventually need to figure out a way to sneak new purchases into the house, avoiding them being seen by "she who must be obeyed"...

This time the poster seems to imply that uncooperative wives are to be expected, a done deal. His post is directed to newcomers; let's hope none of them believe this malarkey.

Oh yea, almost forgot some important information on my wives. The first one I knew only about one year before we married.Smile  That lasted around 15 years. The second one we knew each other a few months before we married.Laughing  That lasted somewhere about 18 years. The third one, we have known each other since we were kids back in the 50's. Shocked Still together, so far.❤  Hope till I reach 85 or 90. My dad passed at 85. I have 15 years to go.Rolling Eyes

My first wife didn't like the radios and divorced me for another man, her boss. The second one didn't like them either. She died about 6 years ago. Now my current wife says they look good and sound good to her. Except the short wave sets. Too much static. Why would anyone want to listen to that stuff? She even helps me in my collecting radios and tubes. She even helped me build my radio room. Great wife!!

And we continue: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

One wonders what in the world this woman could have against her husband's interest in antique radios. Glad she's not my wife! Hmmm. . .wonder how he can get even with her. Divorce court?

OK, I'm one of the lucky ones.
After I retired I did very little around the house. My wife suggested that I find an interest to get me off my a__. When I mentioned that I might like to restore radios, she was all for it. My first try was a Crosley 828 console. When I finished it she thought the only place to put it was in the living room. I since have scattered radios around the house and she thinks it's great.

Somewhere in these forums I have commented about wives of radio collectors who, apparently, despise their husband's collecting activities and must be apologized for. Another such curious reference appears today in another antique radio forum site: "My wife is so far not killing me for junking up her house only because she sees the joy and amazement in my eyes."

How lucky I am (and I hope others are) to have a loving wife who enjoys my radio hobby as much as I do and who not only encourages it but also contributes to it with her skillful abilities. No silly complaints from her about taking up house space with my junk-etc.

I wonder how many of these wife complainers eventually fall into what seems to be a modern trend among marrieds: one argument and they head for the divorce lawyers and courts.
