Copain,
Typically I have found the scraping problem to be caused by the rubber washers or grommets drying out on the under the chassis mounting bolts or the grommets or rubber insulators isolating the tuning capacitor assy.

Excellent. It did not require any alignment work, either! The toughest part of the work, believe it or not, was getting the telephone dial to fit properly in the cabinet escutcheon opening. If it's off just a hair, it will scrape against the opening. The idea is to turn the telephone dial until an indicator arrow is roughly at the frequency number you want, then fine tune with a nicely geared down variable capacitor.

The Airline 62-367 required a new power transformer. Fortunately I had one (350-0-350) in my parts collection; it installed quite easily. After recapping, replacing resistors, etc., the terrible smell of power supply overload was unmistakable. The use of a dim light bulb tester verified the problem. I would urge everyone to make this simple but effective piece of test equipment (recommended by Marcus and Levy in Elements of Radio Servicing, a book no one who wants to repair antique radios should be without). After refinishing the cabinet the unit is now a proud addition to my collection.

I should say my latest acquisition because I didn't really "find" this unit; it was given me by someone who knows my interest in antique radios who found it at a yard sale. It's an Airline model 62-367, a big seven-tube table model. I copied out the Rider service data for it from Nostalgiaair.org. How fortunate we all are that this service is available on the Internet. I spent most of today cleaning 75 years of dirt from the chassis, hosing the cabinet and letting it dry and sanitize in today's very hot sun, cleaning and lubing the controls, and preparing to install a new line cord. Tomorrow I'll change the electrolytic capacitors, reinstall the now clean tubes (including what appears to be the original Ward's 6G5), and give it a test firing up. I'll try to keep you advised as the restoration of this unit progresses. In the meantime, if anyone has any interesting comments or tips about the 62-367, please post.
