W8WHO--Did you ever complete the G.E. restoration? Problems? Results? Restoration details would be very much welcome and informative. BTW, I've reread the thread and still do not find a model number for your G.E.

Ok I did a little editing for you.

So if you want to download a picture, the first thing to do is find out if the picture file extension ends in (.jpg) or (.jif) or (.bmp)

This one is OK
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
------------------------------------
This one won't work
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
-------------------------------------
However here are following are a couple of Helps
When you are in the edit mode, you will see a bunch of buttons across the top of the edit posting area. (There are 26 buttons for editing the post) Look and you will see one that is a picture and looks like a tree in the picture. When you click on that you will have two boxes that appear the top one is to enter the link where the picture resides at. the lower box is where you type in the description or type in the words click here. That will make your picture show up in your post.

So in your post you will first see this format.
This one won't work
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
So when it changes it will look like this.

you can type the sections in bold lettering and do the same thing
the braces [ ] with the word img between then enter your link here, then follow that with the braces again with a slash inserted before the word img = [left brace /img right brace]

Hey thanks for the comments. Sorry slow reply. Been working outside while the weather is good and not doing much on radiios. Hope to get back more often. The radio is a General Electric and the filter electrolytic was purchased from Antique Radio Supply.

PS Cliff , I am not sure how to put pictures in my messages. Maybe you could send me the best way to do that.
I did creat a personal page put did not know how to get it on this message for a pictiure. I cannot rememebr how I put the chassis on before. Just luck. Or do you want a link instead like this one."
How do I show picture with link?
Thanks

I think sometimes the I.F.s can cause problems with a open lead or shorted variable trimmer (pad) cap. Another one is a coupling cap. Sometimes the bypass caps can also be shorted or the Electrolytics can have a shorted section reducing voltage to the B+ and causing a diminished audio.

I've never seen Orange Drops as replacements for wax or bumblebee caps. I learn something new every day.

If the antenna circuit and your replacement wiring looks OK, you might try re-installing the original caps in the converter stage, if any were replaced. That's the area selectivity takes place.

Good Photo, Where did you get the electrolytic? and the price of it?
That took you how much time to replace all the caps?

If you have weak reception, there are a couple of areas to look at, a plate dropping resistor that's open. Also make sure your antenna connections aren't open some where. What Model is the radio?

Well this is one of my first restore projects. I picked this up at an aucton and the cabinet is in very nice shape.
I did plug the radio into my isolation transformer and slowly brought the power up. It did play fairly well . Even not to much on ac hum. So I decided to change all the filter caps and one 2 watt resistor that looked like it got hot. Guess what> Now it wont receive at all or just on my local station. So I will recheck my wiring of the
replacements filters first.?
I hope the image is ok
