They're predicting it to be at least as bad as the 1935 labor day storm, the worst in recorded history.

I have heard that Hurricanes are natures method of bringing balance to or changing atmospheric dynamics. Just my 2 cents.

I know down here a lot of the summertime moisture we get in the southeast relies on such disturbances, which are said to originate along the equator, then move up into the hemisphere.

It is said a storm cannot originate within nor in close proximity to the equator, but at distances greater than 5 degrees from it.

Well it blew up a pretty good storm here in Atlanta..  Took the power down for 27 hours.  Blew everything off the trees it could.  They even let my shop off for a day and shut down all bus and train service.  Everyone played it safe with this one and appropriately so.  I got to try out my Aladdin kerosene lamp.  Bright white light and warm!
