The impact driver was just the thing.  It grunted for about 2 seconds, then backed that bolt out FAST! No recoil whatsoever.  I can tighten my lug nuts with the wheel still jacked up.

Yup Project Farm has a pretty comprehensive review with physical tests and comparisons.

The reviews are looking pretty good on it.  It never hurts to get the opinion of those one is more acquainted with.

It is a PITA when that happens. I have had the same problem more than once with tie rod ends.
Even more fun when the end pops out of the socket it was swaged into. In reality, that made it EZ to remove the nut. 24" pipe wrench on the ball.

Have not dealt with the Hbr Frt impact gun. I have mine I bought years back, and one Jillian had.
Had seriously thought about getting a 1" extended anvil one for the 5 ton & semi rigs & trailers.

I would look for some reviews on them. Don't remember if Project Farm on YouTube did a comparison on them or not. He is pretty accurate on his evaluations. Sure influenced some of my purchases.

I went to the store and got some spray rust penetrant and gave all the principal hardware a heavy application.  After looking some more at the diagram of the shock and it's hardware, it appears to me that the sleeve in the lower rubber shock mount is turning with the bolt and the rubber is putting up the resistance.  I hope I can get things worked loose.  I am considering an electric impact wrench to enable me to finish this job.  I haven't been so sore in a long time.I am looking at this driver.

It boils down to the idiots who assemble stuff never heard of torque specs. Had a similar problem with Les Schwab replacing the drive tires on the semi tractor. Torque spec is 400-450 ft lbs. They used a 1200 ft lb gun cranked all they way up.. I asked where is your torque wrench & they didn't have one!!! Shocked Shocked (A tire shop & no torque wrench???)

So I had to buy a 600 ft lb torque wrench , break the nuts loose, & re-torque them to spec.
Big socket, 3' breaker bar, and 8 ft pipe! My 1/2" impact wrench wouldn't budge them.
Most never heard of anti-sieze too.

Well I started on the front struts.  I worked for an hour trying to break the lug nuts on it's fancy wheels.  I finally had to use my gorilla lug wrench with a 5 ft. length of galvanized conduit to get the things broke.  And they sounded like they were breaking when they gave way.  After getting the wheels off, I doused the critical fasteners with penetrating oil.  I first tried the lower bolt that goes through the bottom eye of the driver's side strut.  I had to get out the galvo conduit to slide over the 2-1/2 ft. 1/2 in. breaker bar.  it finally gave after using all my might to turn it.  It turned when the (craftsman) socket morning gloried.  I had to buy another 24 mm socket at the auto parts store.  that finally got it to turn in cracking fits and starts like the lug nuts.  I managed to get it to turn about 10 turns beyond where the flag nut held the nut.  I have been working on my own vehicles since 1980 and I have never seen fasteners so incredibly hard to separate as these are.  That bolt had NO let up whatsoever and the bolt itself was torsioning with each fraction of a turn.  Having no other hardware for it.  I tightened the bolt as it was.  There was no difference in the resistance tightening the bolt.  That was it for me.  I put the wheels back on so human beings could service them if needed.  I need to find out how they get these things off without a cutting torch.

Glad you did well.  Usually such sales are disappointments.  Hope your trip goes well.  I intend to do the front struts on the explorer tomorrow.

The auction is over.  I sold over 22,000 worthless TV tubes for $860.  I got $210 for the Zenith 5-S-127 with green crud, a busted dial, no dial drive belt and chipped veneer.  I got $375 for a Zenith 5-S-56 which was a huge pile of garbage, but looked like a million bucks.  I sold every Zenith radio I owned.  I sold 4 of the seven tube TV's I had.  I sold every one of my radios, even the parts sets.  We had a beautiful day and a large crowd.  Don't let anybody tell you that TV tubes won't sell.  The guy that bought them figured to kill a fat hog on ebay.  I wish him luck.  I put them in large boxes, 24 in all, and sold them "grab bag" style.  We didn't let them open the boxes.  I had them sorted and boxed alpha-numerically and sold them just like that.  The auctioneer thought I was nuts for suggesting such a scheme.  Like in the car business, you feature what you don't want people to see.  Worked like a charm.  I realize that $860 won't clear the national debt, but it's $860 more than I  would have gotten had I sent them to the landfill, which was my plan if they did not sell.

When the hifi forum went down, that kind of killed it for me.  I haven't touched anything electronic to amount to anything all summer.  And, sad to say, I may have lost interest.  I haven't even plugged the Concert Grand in all summer.  It's been a year since I had it on.  I play the old Stromberg-Carlson 1121 in the garage while I work, but that's the only one.  IT may be time to clean house further.  Maybe, after the dust settles, I'll find my way back.  Thanks for the good thoughts.  Rex, I'll stay in touch, never fear.

I am planning on heading for Arizona in three weeks, God willing.  This time I won't come back.  Saturday next, September 19, I am selling all I own with a truck load of exceptions.  I'm selling 50 years accumulation of stuff.  My old Chevy truck, tractor that was born the week I was, all my tools and lawn equipment, 128 radios, 38 fans, 25,000 vacuum tubes, speakers, parts.  What tubes that don't sell go to the landfill.  What radios that don't sell go to the landfill.  I have almost 1200 LP's for sale.  What doesn't sell, I'll donate to a no-kill shelter for their annual fund raiser.  I'm keeping what tubes I feel I'll use and can manage, some of my most-often-used parts, spare speakers, things like that.  I'm dumping all my parts sets and maybe my old TV's including our first TV and my dad's last TV.  I'm keeping my Magnavox collection, 30 small radios, seven console radios, seven fans, plus tape recorders and record players.  And, of course, I'll keep most of my test equipment.  It's time.  My wife has been sick all summer and I can't manage both places and keep up with taking care of her.  This is one of the hardest decisions for me to come to, ever.  I have worked part-time in retail for over ten years and work around the "illness" all that time.  So far, so good, and I'm allegedly in the highest risk bracket.  I wish all you guys well, and, with your medical situations.  I'll remember you in my prayers and keep a good thought.  I may not be around as much anymore, just depends on how the next months go and how my wife's medical situation turns out.  Getting old is not for sissies.  My best to you all......

This summer, I've had to get cortisone injections.  The first was a surgical tyoe affair to inject the area where my stenosis is occurring.  The 2nd and 3rd has been for my right shoulder.  The PA I am seeing is having me get another MRI of my right shoulder and have a visit to a specialist to see if something more permanent can be done.  These pains are really interfering with my need to do things.  I have finally worked out how to get my car's stereo to navigate and play USB flash drives.  I took my sister out to eat for the first time since the covid started.  It was KFC for 2 at the city park.

Hi all,

Good luck with the stones Cliff!

Holiday weekend up here in Canada. And, here in Nova Scotia, they just opened up the beaches. Will be interesting to see how that works. Very Happy

We have been quite fortunate in the part of the province where I live. The Southwestern part near Yarmouth. The 3 counties here, Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby Counties had no reported cases of the virus at all. For the most part, everyone behaved quite well. The biggest sore spot here were outsiders coming from infected areas to do their shopping, and bragging about it saying how nice it was to be able to get away from their infected areas to do it. This is even though long distance traveling was supposed to be restricted to only what was considered essential.

The only thing that was different for my partner and I was that she missed her weekly knitting group at the local library and I missed my morning breakfasts at the local diner a couple of times a week. The only other change for us was getting groceries once a month instead of every other week. That diner I mentioned is also a convenience store I can walk to, so milk and other assorted necessities were bought there when needed. Aside from the convenience, I kinda like to support the locals if I can.

Not sure what the near future holds. Most of the craft show stuff we start doing now, has all been cancelled till early Fall for now. Regular plans for us as of now is we're gonna head for the various beaches. My partner will do her sketching and water colors while I walk around with the metal detector and see if I can make a killing in the scrap metal business. Razz

As serious as this is/was, I gotta be honest and admit I'm getting a tad tired of seeing nothing but virus related stuff everywhere I go, both in person and on line. Take care and be safe folks.

Oh may cookout a few times...

Got to cut the grass this weekend.

I will miss, the yard sales, the rummages sales and the trips around the area to see the artists studios...

With the corona virus still spreading and no good test or treatment yet, I'm thinking about canceling my plans to travel this summer and stay close to home. Are you guys going to go on your usual summer trips or has the virus situation changed your plans?
