You can use the following to make very small knobs for projects from :
 Toothpaste tube caps
 The spray tops from old paint cans
 
And for large knobs use the lids from the right size spray can or bottle. Fill with epoxy, drill for the shaft, and drill the side & tap for a set (or Grub for you from the UK) screw.
