From time to time a small, portable audio amp is needed for circuit tracing or testing a project.

 Just grab that old BATTERY powered pocket transistor radio, (You know- the one in the junk box with the broken case that was too nice to toss) & add a .01 ceramic capacitor 500WV to the input to the volume control. The other end can go to a probe. Using the probe and the radio ground  will let you listen to a xtal radio made louder, or trace a circuit.
You can add a switching jack to make it even easier to use, too.

NOTE:
 DO NOT use a radio that plugs into the wall outlet. Too many bad things can happen, ranging from burns, blown fuses, and deadly electrical shock.
