Did you put a single diode or a bridge diode? (a bridge diode can give a higher voltage used with additional capacitors on the B +)

If your getting -27 volts then you may have a capacitor in backwards and shorting or draining (leakage)the plus side.
You could also monitor one of the center tube filament buy using a variac to slowly increase the A.C.input voltage and also watch the filament voltage with a volt meter and stop the variac when the filament voltage is 1.5 volts exactly. Dont go up any higher or you will blow the filament(s)
It may also be one of the tube capacitors are shorting the supply voltage.
Are you using the B - as ground reference or the chassis?

Also you may have restricted the current some how with a Bad capacitor or shorted resistor.

It's hard to tell without knowing or seeing the repair process you use.

how much current are you getting THU the DIODE?

I Edited to make it fit.(ADMIN)

I am repairing  the radio and replaced the paper and electrolytic capacitors  . The radio works on the dc setting  using  batteries (10,  9 volt batteries in series and 1 9v
battery  On the AC setting it does not work . The selenium rectifier rated at .063 A was defective and replaced with a 1 amp diode  I also put  4- 10 watt 68 ohm  resisters
in series to generate 272 ohms after the diode since from what i read the diode will not have as much resistance as the rectifier  The schematic shows that 130 Volts should
be on the plus side of the diode  I get -27 volts  The fuses are good, the 68 Watt resister  R9 is good and the 2200 ohm R10 is good   Any suggestions ?
