Double check to make sure the insulation on a high voltage probe is in good condition.

Most important is be sure the ground lead on the probe is SECURELY attached to chassis ground.

I had one pop off the chassis as I was measuring the HV on a color TV and took 35KV right through me. No I was not touching the chassis either. Knocked me right on my keister, and hurt like the devil.
