ok well i have had about all of the fun that i can have with windows 10 and have installed it on all of my desktops that i want it on. i have decided to unplug them all and let them sit on the floor where they will be when i decide that i need to use windows 10.
i have made the migration from windows to Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS last Dec, 2014 and like it and enjoy using it. i have learned so much about Linux and for my small computer needs it does almost everything that i need. the only thing it doesn't do for me at present is flight simulator x which i have on a game tower i built with vista installed on it. yes i still use vista as it is a damn good OS and i don't care what any of the arm chair users say.

life is good.

Great info.
Problem is she's near Chicago, and I'm in Washington!
She is clueless when it comes to computers, so this was the easy way to help. She's 73 and almost blind.
But I think I personally will do that for myself and others.
I will look into that aspect, thanks again.

what I would do is download the iso from Microsoft download center and ceate a bootable dvd and put it in the cd rom drive and boot from it and do a clean raw install and then you won't have any problems.  upgrades have always caused problems.

a clean install with nothing left behind is the only way to go.
I have done at least a dozen windows 10 installs for family and friends now and have had no problems. just make sure you turn off all of the privacy intrusion information seeking in settings / privacy and once a week go back and check them as update roll in and install I have noticed that the get turned back on by default.

well I reinstalled windows 10 today and all went well and updates so far have installed without any problems. installed on dell inspiron 531s amd Athlon 64x2 4000+ dual core 2.1ghz / 4.0gb ram 250gb hard drive NVidia 6150 integrated graphics and not a hitch at all. I can navigate though it very easily. this is an old desktop box from 2008 and I am impressed at how well windows 10 pro 32bit runs on it. I like it and we will see how it goes as updates install. seems that Microsoft has fixed some of the update issues it had when it was released.

I just had the blue screen of death, so I rebooted and it gave me options of restore to a previous date, re-install, or repair.
So repair was my choice. It said it would take several minutes, 3 hours later it was finished. I think it was doing a download update (at least I think) and I'm  going OH NO! VIRUS. It locked up so I could do nothing, not even Task Manager. So after waiting about 1/2 hour I pressed the power button, and after several attempts it did shut down, Then Restarted and it took 3 hours to repair files and disk and check for errors. It's now back to normal. And I didn't have to do anything, but wait.

my install of windows 10 went great. created a dvd and installed it that way not one issue. then along came some updates and after that all went bad so i am going to wait until Thanksgiving or Christmas to try again. i would think by then microsoft would have solved some of the update issues.

i like windows and also use linux so i am covered as far as vehicles to the world wide web. having both OS on one computer does come in handy as it gives me the best of both worlds.

life is good.

They did not change my phone line. They may have done something at some other green phone neighborhood splitter. Nothing as far changing wire. No cable here.

I just upgraded my second laptop and it was flawless, it still took about 3 hours to download to complete install. There are better instruction videos installed, demonstrating the way to use apps.

I did get notice from CenturyLink that Nortons would install compatable version for WIN 10 in sept. But they lied, it was just installed and has better choices. Even it gets rid of junk files (temp files) now defrags, it has several screens with button choices. I am impressed.

Win 10 also has a new browser called edge, but you can still use IE. 11, they put the start menu on the left bottom, same as WIN VISTA. THE CHARMS ARE GONE THANK GOODNESS. It was too fickle and was hit and miss.

If you have a built in camera, you have the option of password or pin, finger print, or facial recognition or iris detection. Lotsa new stuff!!
That is if your computer support those security measures.

I am SUPPOSED to be 1.5M but they throttled it to 640K at best , due to old lines here & the fact I am like 600' from may for twisted pair DSL.

Thanks for the info.
They wanted me to download win 10, but with my lack of computer knowledge, and slow connection, it would take days. Probably with massive errors too.

Down loaded WIN-10 and it didn't go smoothly. There were errors so I had to do some digging. I had to delete some files, and follow Instructions from MICROSOFT. It entailed several steps. But after following them it WORKED cheers . It took about 1 hour just to download, let alone the install and setup (another hour).

It is so much easier than WIN-8 & 8.1. It installs a brand new Browser, and now has voice search.

Will post more later.

One laptop down and one to go.

It will stripout any Virus Checker and insert Windows defender. Once you install your own Virus checker it will disable Defender.
