Sorry. It's a Philco 41-226C I've tried looking for the link to the ARL staff but no luck. Just look for admin or Moderator in postings on the form. We show our rank below our icon (Picture)as Admin or Moderator. Just send a P.M. its a button at the bottom of each post (it shows a person icon with the word MP) to: (ve1arm),or (FrankB), or (Cliff Jones) We have our Admin forum but only we have access to that area and isn't shown to Members. (So that's private.) _________________ I'm a Science Thinker, Radio Tinkerer, and all around good guy. Just ask Me!

Antique Radio Lab. Can you help the OP with posting images? I never have a problem, but I've been posting images on boards for more than 20 years. He says he resized them but somehow I think he missed a step. _________________ Dale H. Cook, GR/HP/Tek Collector, Roanoke/Lynchburg, VA [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| BTW- Who is the ARL? I have heard of the ARRL, but they ate pretty much all ham related stuff, not antique radios. |

| Have you messaged anyone on the ARL staff about this problem?
Can you at least tell us the model of your set? _________________ Dale H. Cook, GR/HP/Tek Collector, Roanoke/Lynchburg, VA [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Dale H. Cook I thank you for trying to help me. Unfortunately, no matter how much I try, I cannot load the schematic. I can't even load any file. No matter how small I make any file, be it jpg or any other file, it tells me "message is to big. The inability to post a schematic is very aggravating to me and I'm sure to others as well. I guess I'm going to have to take a break from this until I can find a way to work this out. Again I thank everyone for trying to help. |

| FrankB Thanks for the help I think that's what I did with the help of someone, I don't recall who. I have a couple wire wound resistors. One is 50ohms 5 watt and the other 1k at 10 watts. Unfortunately the schematic calls for a 500ohm. I'm going to have to order a 500ohm. I have no idea how to calculate the wattage. PM speaker? Permanant Speaker I'm guessing? |

| You can replace the field coil with a choke of the correct resistance and use a PM speaker. I have done that several times with success.
If you so choose to use a resistor, it goes in place of the field coil. You will need to use the correct ohmage and calculate the wattage of the resistor, then use a PM speaker also--but you may end up with hum from using a resistor instead of a choke. Always better to use a higher wattage resistor than you think you need also. Be sure to place it where it is well ventilated. |

| Dale H. Cook Thanks for the info. I didn't want to have to go with the repair and re-coning, pretty expensive but that maybe the only way to go. Also the chassis is in rough shape, I'm not sure I will be able to get it running again. I figured if I did get it going, I'd clean it up along with another speaker. I tried making the images smaller and smaller but no matter how small it makes this message to big. Sorry... |

That is an electrodynamic speaker, which was common in the '30s and '40s before more powerful permanent magnets were introduced. The large coil is the field coil, which produces the magnetic field in which the voice coil moves. In most sets the resistance and reactance of the field coil are major filtering components in the high voltage power supply. - so-tingly wrote:

Is the field coil open? If so you might be better off if you can repair or rewind it. - so-tingly wrote:

You need to resize the image with an image editor. As a general rule you should try to keep the width of an image to 1,000 pixels or less. _________________ Dale H. Cook, GR/HP/Tek Collector, Roanoke/Lynchburg, VA [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Hello everyone I think I've done this before but can't quite recall. I have a speaker with a coil right behind the cone where a magnet should be. If I'm correct the coil is acting like a magnet. Can I replace it with one with a permanent magnet from another old radio? If I recall I had to place a wire wound resistor to make up for the coil and I forgot where I had to place it. I've tried multiple times to upload the schematic and pictures of the speakers but the forum says it's way to big. My apologies. Also, if anyone can tell me how to add images here that would be great [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |
